Users and roles

Use this page when you invite people to FuseScope or decide who can change dashboards, alerts and settings.

On a new installation, the sign-up page creates the first account. It becomes an admin and the root user, which cannot be deleted, have its roles changed or have its password reset from the UI. Sign-up closes once this account exists; everyone else joins by invitation or single sign-on.

The root user can instead be provisioned from the configuration file, which enforces its email and password at every startup:

user:
root:
enabled: true
email: admin@example.com
password: <password>
org:
name: default

Pass the password as SIGNOZ_USER_ROOT_PASSWORD rather than in the file.

Role Name in the API Can
Viewer signoz-viewer Read telemetry, dashboards, alert rules, notification channels, log pipelines and retention settings.
Editor signoz-editor Everything a viewer can, plus create, edit and delete dashboards, saved views, trace funnels, alert rules, planned downtimes and log pipelines, and send test notifications.
Admin signoz-admin Everything, plus members, service accounts, notification channels, routing policies, data retention, single sign-on and organization settings.

Settings → Roles lists the built-in roles. A user can hold several roles.

Only admins see Settings → Members.

  1. Click Invite member.
  2. Enter each person’s Email address and pick their Roles. Add another adds a row.
  3. Click Invite Team Members.

Each invited user is listed as INVITED until they accept. FuseScope emails them a link when email is configured; with or without email, open the member and click Copy Invite Link to share it yourself. The link opens a page where the user sets a password, and expires after user.password.invite.max_token_lifetime (default 48h); Regenerate Invite Link issues a new one.

Revoke Invite cancels a pending invitation.

Click a member to open Member Details:

  • change the name or roles, then Save Member Details. You cannot change your own roles;
  • Generate Password Reset Link creates a one-time link to share with the user;
  • Delete Member removes access and ends the user’s sessions. Deleted members remain listed under the Deleted filter.

Users can also reset their own password from Forgot password? on the login page when self-service reset is allowed:

user:
password:
reset:
allow_self: true
max_token_lifetime: 6h

Otherwise they are asked to contact an admin.

Invitations and password reset emails use the emailing section of the configuration file:

emailing:
enabled: true
smtp:
address: smtp.example.com:587
from: fusescope@example.com
auth:
username: fusescope@example.com

Set the password with SIGNOZ_EMAILING_SMTP_AUTH_PASSWORD. Alert emails use separate settings; see Notification channels.
