Impersonation mode

Use this page when you see the Impersonation mode banner, or want a local or demo instance that opens without a login page.

In impersonation mode FuseScope has no sign-in. Every request, from the browser or the API, acts as the root user, an admin. The UI skips the login page and shows this banner on Home:

Impersonation mode: authentication is disabled. Anyone with access to this instance has admin privileges.

Impersonation replaces session tokens and API keys, so those must be turned off, and it needs a root user to act as:

identn:
impersonation:
enabled: true
tokenizer:
enabled: false
apikey:
enabled: false
user:
root:
enabled: true
email: admin@example.com
password: <password>
org:
name: default

The same with environment variables:

Terminal window
SIGNOZ_IDENTN_IMPERSONATION_ENABLED=true
SIGNOZ_IDENTN_TOKENIZER_ENABLED=false
SIGNOZ_IDENTN_APIKEY_ENABLED=false
SIGNOZ_USER_ROOT_ENABLED=true
SIGNOZ_USER_ROOT_EMAIL=admin@example.com
SIGNOZ_USER_ROOT_PASSWORD=<password>

The backend refuses to start when impersonation is on together with the tokenizer or API keys, or when the root user is not enabled. At startup it logs a warning that all requests impersonate the root user.

See Configuration file for where these settings go.

  1. Remove identn.impersonation.enabled or set it to false, and remove the tokenizer and apikey overrides; both are on by default.
  2. Restart the backend.
  3. Sign in as the root user, then invite members or set up single sign-on.
